This song is bittersweet. The melody is beautiful, but sorrowful, almost haunting. The lyrics are definitely about the end of a relationship due to betrayal by unfaithfulness, and the resulting despair that "infects" both partners (for some reason this line sticks with me - "I feel our world's been infected"). Their love and their world are tainted.
